With his superbowl performance just a couple months away Kendrick Lamar drops his 6th studio album GNX. Some are calling this a mixtape since there are only 12 tracks, but the running time is 44 minutes which is on par with most LPs these days. I think it’s possible he could release a deluxe version or part 2 to this project on the day of the Super Bowl or right after.
We hear Kendrick boasting about winning the rap battle between him and Drake in songs like wacced out murals and man at the garden. What I liked about this project is Kendrick putting on some west coast artists while his star is peaking. Besides SZA and Roddy Ricch most of the features on this project are lesser known. Dody6, Lefty Gunplay, Wallie the Sensei, Siete7x, AzChike, Hitta J3, YoungThreat, & Peysoh aren’t exactly household names unless you’re truly tuned in to the west coast which has fallen off the last two decades. Snoop Dogg recently claimed that Kendrick has usurped his crown as the king of the west coast. Now that Kendrick is at the throne he can truly get the west coast back on the map.
Best Song = “luther” (Kendrick Lamar & SZA)
