This album sounds like a combination of his last two albums. The 2019 Grammy award winning IGOR and the 2021 Grammy Nominated CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. “IGOR” was solely produced by Tyler himself and had a R&B / funk sound to it. This had Tyler drawing comparisons to producer Pharrell Williams. “IGOR” strength was the production while “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST” got Tyler back into his rapper bag.

Like “IGOR” this album was produced, written, and arranged by Tyler. However, I feel like this LP he had a more balanced approach. Some songs like St. Chroma are more focused on production while a song like Rah Tah Tah had Tyler showing off his skills as a rapper. What’s unique about this album is that it is female themed. It has several features from female artist’s. GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Doechii, Santigold, Lola Younh and LaToiya Williams are featured on this album. Tyler’s mother Bonita Smith also appears throughout the album. There is also a bonus track titled Mother.  Male features include Lil Wayne, Schoolboy Q, Teezo Touchdown, and Daniel Caesar. Overall, there is a good feature ratio as 50% of the songs do not have a guest appearance.

Personally, I like the rapper Tyler and feel like the production sometimes becomes lackadaisical. I’m in the minority in thinking “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST” was a better album than “IGOR”. Even though he took two different approaches to this album he still managed to make a cohesive album. What I appreciated about this album is that Tyler (who is now 33) showed growth and vulnerability by getting more personal. He talks about feelings like paranoia, judgement, stress, pressure, sexuality and contemplating parenthood.

Best Song = “Rah Tah Tah”
