Acclaimed singer-songwriter Anya Marina returns with a captivating new single and video, Waiting For A Difference, released via Good Rope Records. The song delves into themes of love and connection, capturing the emotional turmoil of longing for change during turbulent times. With her distinctive voice and heartfelt lyrics, Marina reflects on personal experiences, particularly her journey from hopelessness to finding love. The striking video, directed by Jesse Dufault, adds a visual narrative to the song’s poignant message, filmed against the haunting backdrop of Wall Street in Kingston, NY. Marina shares:
I recorded this bedroom demo in 2016, recorded it in earnest again in St Louis in 2019, and then re-recorded from the ground up in 2024 in a barn in Woodstock with producer Kevin Salem. We changed the key and the tempo but I loved the guitar solo so much from the St Louis sessions (executed by Kevin Bachmann), that we were able to pitch shift it and keep it in this newer, slightly faster version.
Collaborating with seasoned producer Kevin Salem, known for his organic, minimalist approach, Marina revisited “Waiting For A Difference” in a Woodstock barn studio, infusing it with a renewed energy and emotional depth. The track is part of her upcoming album, Asteroid, set to release on October 25th. Ahead of the album’s launch, Marina continues to tour with comedian Nikki Glaser on the sold-out Alive And Unwell Tour, further sharpening her performance skills.
