Behind The Lens: Madison Jay (Part Treize)

How do you celebrate the start of a new season in your music career?

I usually write down my plan of attack for whatever new project I’m recording. I like to set the tone mentally as to where I’m going, then let everything else fall in place.

What inspired you to start making music?

I was inspired off of Bow Wow honestly. Not like he’s my muse musically or esthetically but just us being the same age. I saw another kid rapping and it really showed me that young talent could thrive.

How do you stay grounded in the fast-paced music industry?

I just remember who I am and what the end game is to me. I don’t get swayed too much by the outside forces in regards to my foundation. The industry is a constantly moving machine with interchanging parts. You gotta be in tune with yourself to not to be completely swayed by that machine.

How do you balance your personal life with your music career?

Honestly I just balance them both the best I can. I don’t like to mix the two but they’re so intertwined with each other it can be hard. I’m a laid back brother. I draw lines at some point but as an independent artist I just try to balance them out as evenly as possible.

What's the most challenging song you've ever written?

The most challenging song I’ve written is probably non of them. I usually just float on tracks. Sh*t really don’t be challenging to me unless the beat doesn’t move me then it might be a little difficulty to scribe to.

How do you stay inspired during the long winter months?

Winter is no problem to me. I love being out in the elements. I can write any season, any occasion.

What's your dream collaboration with another artist?

I use to have dream collabs and I still do but I’m just gonna say that if we can make magic together musically then let’s get it. No more dreams man, only reality!

What's the story behind your latest song?

I dropped Holiday Joint to spread some holiday joy. The OG DJ Billy Bill sent me the beat a long long time ago and I sat on it until the time was just right. I told myself if Mariah Carey can run up a bag with her joint then I need to at least shoot a shot and see what happens!

What's one thing you wish to accomplish this year?

I’m going to drop all the projects I intended to this year as planned. That’s a project every month in 2025. I’m not hoping to accomplish it because I AM going to accomplish it.

How do you see your music evolving in the future and where can people connect with you at?

For everybody’s who’s been following my career then you know that it only gets better from here. Every year I elevate and ascend to new heights. 2025 won’t be any different. Y’all follow me @themadisonjay
