Grief speaks in melodies, and healing finds its way through sound. Ben Kweller shares Depression, the latest track from his deeply personal new album Cover The Mirrors. Set for release on May 30, a day that would have marked his late son Dorian Zev’s 19th birthday. Featuring Coconut RecordsJason Schwartzman, the song pairs synth-heavy nostalgia with raw honesty, capturing the isolating weight of loss and the unexpected turns toward light. Built around a childhood keytar preset, “Depression” drapes Kweller’s signature storytelling in a slinky, melancholic groove, mirroring the unpredictable path of grief. Kweller said:

I'm not hiding the ball here. This song says what most of us feel at our lowest. Then it just takes a sharp turn—because that's what I do when I need something good.

Schwartzman echoes the sentiment stating: "

BK is one of the finest songwriters we got. His music means a lot to me and my family, and this song nails a feeling that’s so hard to put into words.

"Cover The Mirrors," Kweller’s first full-length release since 2023, features collaborations with Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman, The Flaming Lips, and more, cementing it as a profound testament to both loss and resilience. As he gears up for a North American tour—joined by Christopher Mintz-Plasse (bass), Parker Twomey (guitar/keys), and Ryan Dean (drums)—Kweller is ready to take these songs to the stage, offering both catharsis and connection.
