This type of music will set you free. Koyal, the Los Angeles via Atlanta indie pop/rock trio, has released their honest and luminous second studio album, breathe in. breathe out. Filled with glistening melodies, bubbling production, and earnest lyricism, the album explores life’s ups and downs with a blend of vulnerability and unshakable optimism. Alongside it's release comes the official lyric video for half alive, which is a cinematic ballad that captures the tension between living fully and feeling creatively stifled. The track “half alive” was born from a 4AM voice note after months of feeling trapped by societal expectations, delivering a slow burn that crescendos with wailing guitars and the desperate cry, “set me free!” Vocalist Pooja Prabakaran shares:

I’m so proud of how open, raw, and vulnerable we were in writing this album. It’s sure to make people both dance and introspect!

Recorded at Dr. Dog’s Headroom Studios in Philadelphia, the album was co-produced by guitarist Noah Weinstein and Jeff Lucci and mixed by Harper James. With additional production by Tony Doud and Desmond Myers and mastering by Joe LaPorta, breathe in. breathe out captures the trio’s signature rich indie pop sound—one that fuses influences from Glass Animals, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and GROUPLOVE. Koyal will celebrate the release with an electrifying live show at The Virgil in Los Angeles on April 25. Stream “breathe in. breathe out” now, watch the “half alive” lyric video and connect with Koyal on Instagram, Facebook, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok.
