Calum Scott, the multi-platinum-selling singer/songwriter, returns with his uplifting new single Roots. This summer anthem, produced by The Six and Dino Medanhodzic, showcases Calum’s more lighthearted side and pop-leaning sensibilities. “Roots” is a high-energy pop/rock track that delivers a powerful mood lift, embodying themes of nostalgia and the importance of staying connected to one’s roots. Co-written with Jon “MAGS” Maguire, Richard Boardman, and Mike Needle, the song is a testament to Calum’s ability to blend introspective lyrics with infectious melodies. Speaking about the inspiration behind “Roots,” Calum shared:
‘Roots’ is a reminder of the good times and the carefree moments that take you back to a place of nostalgia and memories of loved ones immortalized in pure elation. It’s a fiery, in-your-face, up-tempo pop song that reflects a yearning for times gone by and the realization that 'my roots' are my family, my friends, my city; the people and the places that raised me. I’ve achieved things I could never have imagined, but without ‘my roots,’ I don’t know where I’d be.
Following its premiere, Calum has continued to perform the track live, including a memorable debut at Rock In Rio Lisboa, which garnered a passionate response. Currently supporting Ed Sheeran on his Mathematics Tour, Calum will soon embark on The Songbook So Far Tour across North America this fall, featuring rising Irish singer/songwriter Cian Ducrot.
