Acclaimed California rock band Dawes has just released their deeply introspective single, Still Strangers Sometimes, from their forthcoming ninth studio album, Oh Brother. This latest track, co-produced by brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith with the help of longtime friend Mike Viola, captures the nuanced complexity of long-term relationships. The band continues to evolve musically, weaving heartfelt lyrics with their signature sound, solidifying Dawes as a mainstay in the rock scene. The official music video, which premiered today, adds a compelling visual layer to the song’s intimate narrative. Frontman Taylor had to say:
It’s a song about the spiritual investigation of long-term relationships. How a part of ourselves will be unknowable forever, despite our deep connections and intimate understandings of each other.
"Oh Brother" promises to be a pivotal album for Dawes, marking a new chapter following the departure of two longtime bandmates last year. The album reflects the deepening bond between Taylor and Griffin as they navigate this new phase of their musical journey. The recording process was intimate, with many tracks initially laid down with just Taylor on guitar and vocals and Griffin on drums, before adding more layers with their touring guitarist Trevor Menear. Fans can look forward to the Oh Brother Tour kicking off on November 7 in Knoxville, TN, where Dawes will perform alongside Winnetka Bowling League. Be sure to watch the official video for “Still Strangers Sometimes” below and stay tuned for the album’s release on October 11 and pre-order here.
