Phoenix-based shoegaze innovators Gixen are back with their latest single, Sick Silent. This track marks a bold step forward in their sonic evolution, blending heavy, noise-laden rock with intricate melodic elements. “Sick Silent” showcases Glixen’s signature sound—a mesmerizing tapestry of intense guitar riffs, bracing drums, and ethereal vocals, delivering an immersive auditory experience. Lead vocalist Aislinn Ritchie describes the track as a “meadow in a dark forest,” evoking a sense of temporarily through its distorted layers and dynamic percussion. In Ritchie’s words:
‘Sick Silent’ is like a meadow in a dark forest, evoking feelings of temporality. There are currents of distortion and reverse reverb enveloped in adrenaline-inducing percussion and hard-hitting bass lines with vocals that shine through piercing layers of guitars giving a glimpse of the world that Glixen lives in.
This release continues the band’s trend of crafting atmospheric and emotionally charged music, further solidifying their place in the American shoegaze renaissance. Produced by Sonny DiPerri, “Sick Silent” is a testament to Glixen’s commitment to evolving their sound. Their upcoming EP promises to push these boundaries even further.
