Eric Cannata is a multi-talented songwriter, guitarist, and one of the founding member of Young The Giant. today marks the first taste of his upcoming solo debut with the single The Wave. This atmospheric track, infused with cinematic flair is set against the backdrop of an apocalyptic tidal wave, which the song explores themes of finding hope and joy amidst chaos. The single, accompanied by a stunning video directed by Taylor Thompson, captures the serene yet powerful visual of Cannata’s character embracing the inevitable in a poetic display of acceptance. In reflecting on the meaning behind “The Wave,” Cannata says:
It’s a song about a tidal wave coming toward the coast of California, after the ‘Big One’ earthquake hits. While everyone is running for safety, I calmly make my way to the beach to celebrate my demise.
His debut album Holding Onto the Holy arrives in January 2025, with the help of Industry Houseplant andMontecarlo Sounds. Cannata’s debut album also features contributions from close collaborators such as his father, Ernie Cannata, on piano, longtime friend Jon O’Brien on mixing and engineering and accompaniment from drummer Kosta Galanopoulos. Fans can catch Cannata live during two solo acoustic performances, opening for Young The Giant’s sold-out anniversary shows at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA, on January 19-20, 2025.
