Danish-Japanese singer/songwriter Mina Okabe unveils her tender new single, “Making Plans,” an exploration of unrequited love. With wistful acoustic strumming and subtle piano accents, the track captures the ache of unreturned affection while evolving into a journey of self-acceptance and clarity. Collaborating with GRAMMY®-nominated producer Leroy Clampitt, Okabe’s crystalline vocals shine as she conveys longing, loss, and quiet resilience. Speaking on the single, Okabe shares:
"Making Plans’ is a song about unrequited love. It’s a very vulnerable topic, and probably one of the saddest and most emotional songs I’ve ever written. I wrote it at home with my guitar, so when we recorded it in the studio, I only added a few elements to preserve its intimate feel.
Released alongside Capitol Records, this stripped-back yet emotionally potent track offers a glimpse into Okabe’s highly anticipated sophomore album, set to arrive next spring. At just 24 years old, Okabe has already achieved remarkable success, with over 500 million streams and accolades such as the 2024 Japan Gold Disc Award for New Artist of the Year. Following her sold-out tour of Japan and recognition as a Spotify Borderless Artist for 2025, Okabe continues to mesmerize global audiences with her heartfelt storytelling. Fans can look forward to her performance at the prestigious Eurosonic Festival in January, coinciding with the awards ceremony for the Music Moves Europe Awards, where she is nominated.
