Washington DC-based indie soul band Oh He Dead has just released their highly anticipated new album, Ugly, showcasing their signature blend of soulful melodies and infectious grooves. The album is a raw and intimate exploration of life’s contradictions, filled with songs that delve into themes of love, death, and the complexities in between. The creation of "Ugly" was a labor of love, recorded in late-night sessions at guitarist Alex Salser’s barn studio and mixed and mastered by Jimmy Mansfield. Frontwoman CJ Johnson says :
Ugly is not meant to be just sad. All the songs are about the beauty of the darkness that leads to more light.
The album’s production reflects the band’s commitment to authenticity, with tracks like Tell Me featuring The Honeynut Horns and Is It My Love standing out for their dynamic arrangements. Oh He Dead continues to carve out a unique space in the indie soul genre. Celebrating the album’s release, the band is headlining a sold-out hometown show at The Atlantis tonight, setting the stage for a newly announced fall tour.
