The dancefloor can hold a lot of memories. Sebastian Schub, the German-born, London-based artist who has been steadily building his reputation, delivers another emotionally charged performance with his new single, I Can’t Believe We Never Went Out Dancing. The track offers a poetic and theatrical ode to hindsight and the bittersweet nature of regret. Following the drama of his debut single Sing Like Madonna, Schub’s latest release shifts gears to a stark yet strikingly beautiful composition. Stripped down to his commanding baritone and minimal piano accompaniment, the song’s haunting simplicity echoes the soulful introspection of blues and modern-day ballads. Reflecting on the track, Schub shared:

The song was born from a little poem I wrote in the middle of the night, unable to sleep. It’s about regret and not making the most of something that deserved more. For a long time, it was just a rumble on the piano until it finally clicked during a trip to Berlin last spring.

Raised in Hamburg and now based in London, Schub’s journey has been anything but conventional. From busking on the streets of Dublin and London to silencing crowds at Camden’s Spiritual Bar, he’s taken an old-school approach to honing his craft in a fast-paced, digital world. Schub ultimately decided to record the song live at Dean Street Studios in Soho, capturing the raw intimacy of a live performance. Released via Island EMI Label Group and Capitol Records, “I Can’t Believe We Never Went Out Dancing” is a testament to his growth as an artist.
