Indie rock sensation The Crane Wives have unveiled their latest track and accompanying video, Bitter Medicine, an upbeat ode to impostor syndrome that marks their continued exploration of deeply personal themes. Known for their harmonious folk-rock sound, the Grand Rapids-based band once again captivates listeners with their signature three-part harmonies and tight instrumentation. With driving guitar riffs and introspective lyrics, "Bitter Medicine" is a testament to The Crane Wives' ability to blend raw emotion with infectious energy. This release is a precursor to their highly anticipated fifth studio album, Beyond Beyond Beyond, set to drop on September 6. Vocalist and guitarist Emilee Petersmark had to say:
For me, songwriting has always been a safe place for honesty and vulnerability. 'Bitter Medicine' is one of many songs on this record that explores what it means to be an imperfect person making imperfect choices. The older I get, the more I feel the weight of younger people’s eyes, and I often find myself questioning if I am the kind of person that deserves to be a role model. This song touches on the insecurity that comes with that line of questioning, and the acceptance that maybe the answer is ‘no’.
The self-produced album, "Beyond Beyond Beyond," showcases the band’s dynamic evolution, featuring contributions from violinist Samantha Cooper and cellist Jordan Hamilton. The Crane Wives have also announced a fall tour, beginning with their album release show in Grand Rapids, MI, on September 6. As they continue their summer tour across North America, fans can anticipate a series of energetic performances that highlight their new material.
